What Qualities Define A Leader?

Just because someone is in charge doesn’t mean they possess the skills necessary to be a truly successful leader. Being the boss or CEO of a company requires certain traits that separate the great leaders from the rest of the mediocre pack. Here are some of the top qualities that define good leadership:

Tough Skin

An effective leader must be resilient to the negative feedback of critics and the many failures they will experience before achieving substantial success. Without a sense of determination, most CEO’s of startup companies wouldn’t be working for themselves because they’d give up as soon as things didn’t work right away. If you give up on yourself and your dream, why should anyone else believe in you?

Sense of Purpose

A clear vision and an ability to focus are crucial traits of a CEO or any leader in general. Without a clear purpose, the project has no definite goal to work towards and is much more likely to fail. Determination and focus are also necessary to complete the projects they begin; if a CEO doesn’t finish what he starts, he’s not going to have a product to sell or a functional company.

Well-Spoken

Great ideas are worthless if you can’t adequately articulate them to the people you want to help you achieve your goals. Whether you need to impress new investors or convince your hockey team to use a certain play, leadership requires the capacity to speak well and clearly. The people we quote are the people we listen to; no one is going to take what you say seriously if you don’t speak with passion and clarity.

Listening Skills & Willingness To Take Action

In addition to being a persuasive speaker, a successful leader must also be a great listener. But more importantly, they must respond to what they hear with action. Learn to accept and internalize feedback so you can improve your project with the contributions of other minds besides your own. A good leader needs to act on a good idea when they hear it, even if someone else on the team suggests it.

Early Mistakes Men Make With Women

There’s a large difference between being a stud who can get women to go home with him all the time and being the type of guy that most girls would actually date. The problem is that many guys aren’t aware when they are making mistakes that signal huge red flags for the woman they want to date. Read on to find out which mistakes men make early in potential relationships that turns girls off of dating them long-term.

Acting Overly Possessive

Being possessive of your woman is a sure way to send her running–especially in very fresh relationships. Sometimes you haven’t even named yourselves an official couple and you start to feel jealous of her spending time with her male colleagues or friends—this will not impress her. If you try to control her behavior or complain about the friends she spends her time with, you’ll never make it to boyfriend status. Of course, once you’re seriously dating you can discuss your concerns if you still think she spends too much time alone with Ken from the office, but it’s none of your business unless you suspect she’s cheating.

Acting Too Easily Pleased

Believe it or not, women like a challenge. Sure, i you dole out compliments left and right and laugh at all of her jokes, it might make a woman feel great about herself; but if she knows she not looking her best or that her last joke was a flop and you falsely compliment her, she may suspect you only want to sleep with her won’t think of you as boyfriend material. That’s not to say you can’t offer sincere compliments to your lady, but save them for when you really mean it and she’ll feel like she’s earned it.

Treating Her Like A Booty Call

Girls have an idea of how the male mind works, and most would be mildly offended if she thought you didn’t want to sleep with her after a date or two. But if you push the issue of sex too soon or start treating her like a late night booty call rather than a potential girlfriend, she’ll call it quits. To be considered boyfriend material, you need to have the patience to respect your woman as a person and respect her boundaries as well. But even once things get a bit more serious in the bedroom, don’t think about calling her after a late night of drinking unless you want to be demoted from beau to booty call.

Important Reasons To Quit Drinking Soda

North Americans are notorious soft drink guzzlers, and the habit is taking its toll on our health. The Beverage Marketing Corporation says that the average American drinks 44.7 gallons of soda every year…that’s enough to fill a small pool. The truly frightening part of this is that most soda drinkers probably don’t realize the scope of the health dangers associated with drinking so much pop. Yes, sugary sodas contribute the obesity, but here are some more alarming findings that will turn you off of pop for good.

Soda Fattens Your Organs

A Danish study recently found that drinking soda can lead to an increase in fats that are difficult to detect. Study participants were asked to drink either soda, milk, diet cola, or water every day for six months (the milk contained the same calories as the regular soda). The impact of the experiment did not influence the participants’ total fat mass, but those who consumed regular soda on a daily basis experienced a startling increase in harmful hidden fats, such as liver fat and skeletal fat. The group drinking regular pop also experienced an 11% hike in cholesterol.

Swap your daily cola for an extra glass of water and you’ll reduce the amount of calories in your diet as well as lower your risk of gaining harmful unseen fats.

Soda Contains Flame Retardant

Many popular soda options use brominated vegetable oil to ensure the artificial flavouring doesn’t separate from the liquid. The problem here is that brominated vegetable oil is actually a toxic flame retardant and extremely hazardous. Consumption can cause bromide-poisoning symptoms, including memory loss and skin lesions. I don’t know about you, but that’s not something I want in my cold beverages.

Undetermined Long-Term Effects

One of the scariest problems associated with drinking soda is that many brands are sweetened with genetically engineered high-fructose corn syrup. This man-made compound has only been included in foods since the 1990’s, so we aren’t sure what nasty long-term health affects might result from its consumption. However, recent findings say that genetically engineered crops are connected to problems in the digestive track, accelerated aging and possible infertility.

Impress Your Interviewer With These Questions

You’ve secured an interview for your dream job; you attend and answer all of their questions beautifully. It’s the final stretch; you’ve practically planned out your new office setup and know which suit you’ll wear for the first day of work. And then your interviewer says, “Well, I’ve found out just about everything I needed to know. Do you have any questions for me?”

If you haven’t done a bit of research on the company or planned some clever questions, this part of the interview might stump you and cost you the chance at an amazing job.

Here are some smart questions that you can ask your interviewer to demonstrate your interest in the role as well as gain some valuable insight as to what your working life would be like with this employer.

“What are the most important personality traits a candidate needs to do well in this position?”

Depending on how the interviewer answers, you can determine whether or not your demeanor is well suited for the role, as well as decode what the working conditions will be. If they answer “independence and intuition” as the top traits, you can assume you will be working alone without direct supervision or assistance.

“What changes do you hope the successful candidate will make in this role?”

This question can get the interviewer to open up about why the previous candidate left or lost the position and provide information on the condition of your workload. Maybe the previous candidate was disorganized and didn’t follow up with clients, in which case you will have the job of cleaning up the last guy’s mess. This question also tells the employer that you hope to be the best employee possible.

“What do you like most about working here?”

The answer to this inquiry can be revealing. If the interviewer seems unsure or uncomfortable answering the question, there may be underlying problems in the workplace that make it a bad environment for employees. However, if they answer genuinely and positively, you will probably be entering a balanced and happy company culture. This question also helps to turn a one-way interview into more of a conversation.

What To Do If A Cop Pulls You Over

Even if you haven’t been speeding and are completely innocent, there is something undeniable nerve-wracking about being pulled over by the police. You don’t want to offend the officer or cause suspicion with nervous behavior, but if you have no clue what to expect you might accidentally do so. Do you know what to do if you see those flashing lights signaling for you to pull over? Read our guide for tips on how to act when a police offer wants you to pull over.

1. Pulling Over

Sometimes you aren’t on a stretch of road that allows you to safely stop, so if a cop signals you to pull over, slow down your pace and turn on your emergency flasher to communicate that you have seen his lights. Choose a safe area for both you and the officer to stop at the right side of the road. If it’s evening, choose a well-lit location if possible, as this will put the officer at ease and show that you are levelheaded and not trying to hide anything.

2. The Approach

Once you stop your vehicle, remain inside the car and give the officer a chance to approach you. If you exit the car immediately, you give off the impression that you might be aggressive or are trying to draw attention away from something in your vehicle. So turn off the engine, roll down your window, and stay seated. It is also considerate to turn on your dome lights if it’s dark out.

3. Stay Calm

Nothing gets you into trouble faster than nervously blurting out nonsense or excuses to an officer. Most people get a bit riled up when they are pulled over, so take a few deep breaths to relax before the officer gets to your window. Unless you’ve done something illegal, the worst you can expect is a fine or a routine traffic stop. Keep your hands on the wheel so the officer immediately knows you are not a threat.

4. Be Courteous

Wait for them to ask for your license and registration, and answer an officer’s questions politely. But remember that anything you say can be used in court, so don’t directly admit to any wrongdoing if you plan on fighting the ticket. If the officer is a woman, don’t you dare try to sweet talk her—treat all officers of the law with respect. Also, signing a citation is not an admission of guilt, so if the cop issues one you should sign it. Your signature on a citation just promises that you will either pay the fine or show up in court on the designated date.
